You must have
- an occupation that is on the list of eligible skilled occupations
- at least 3 years relevant work experience, unless you are exempt
- a positive skills assessment, unless you are exempt
- at least a level of “Competent English”

This visa allows you to temporarily live in Australia under the following subcategories:

Short-term stream
This visa enables employers to address labour shortages by bringing in skilled workers where employers cannot source an appropriately skilled Australian worker.
- The occupation is on the short-term skilled occupations list
Normally permits a maximum stay in Australia of two years. Hong Kong passport holders may stay up to 5 years.
Medium-term stream
Labour agreement stream
Sub Class: 462
This visa lets people 18 to 30 years old have an extended holiday in Australia and to work in Australia to help fund the trip.
It requires you to have an eligible passport, which includes Hong Kong.

This 5-year temporary visa allows you to live, work and study only in designated regional areas of Australia, away from major metropolitan areas.
There are three streams in this category, comprising:
- Employer Sponsored stream designed for regional employers to address labour shortages within their region by sponsoring skilled workers, where employers are unable to source a suitably skilled Australian worker
- Labour Agreement stream for skilled workers nominated by employers under a labour agreement
- Subsequent entrant stream for family members of people already in Australia on the provisional regional employment visa
After three years, you may become eligible for permanent residence in Australia.
Sub Class: 491
This 5-year temporary visa allows you to live, work and study only in designated regional areas of Australia, away from major metropolitan areas.
There are two streams in this category, comprising:
- being nominated to apply by a state or territory government agency, or
- having an eligible relative to sponsor you
In addition, you must
- have an occupation on the relevant Australian skilled occupation list
- have a suitable skills assessment by an Australian assessing authority for the occupation
- be invited to apply
- satisfy the points test
After three years, you may become eligible for permanent residence in Australia.
Sub Class: 190
This visa allows you to migrate to Australia as a permanent resident, based upon your qualifications and work experience, together with other factors such as your age and English language ability. In addition, you must have been nominated for this visa by an Australian state or territory government agency.
You must also
- have an occupation recognised on the relevant skilled occupation list
- have a suitable skills assessment from the relevant authority in Australia for your occupation
- submit an “Expression of Interest” (EOI) and be invited to apply for this visa
- satisfy the points test

Sub Class: 189
This visa allows you to migrate independently to Australia as a permanent resident, based upon your qualifications and work experience, together with other factors such as your age and English language ability.
You must

- have a suitable skills assessment from the relevant authority in Australia for your occupation
- submit an “Expression of Interest” (EOI) and be invited to apply for this visa
- satisfy the points test

The student visa program for Australian study comprises different streams, including
- primary and secondary study;
- English language study;
- Vocational Education Sector (VET) certificate courses at various levels;
- Tertiary Education study including bachelor, master and PhD degrees.
Students are required to demonstrate eligibility including
- enrolment confirmation,
- prior study history,
- financial capacity to cover course fees and living expenses, and
- to demonstrate a genuine intention to temporarily reside in Australia for study purposes.

For students under the age of 18, the Student Guardian visa subclass 590 may also be available to an eligible relative or custodian.

This category allows a student’s parent, custodian or relative who is 21 years or older to come to Australia to provide care and support for a student visa holder who is under 18 years of age or older due to exceptional circumstances
You need to demonstrate:
- the nature of your relationship with the student
- that you have enough money to support yourself and the student during your stay
- that you can provide the student with accommodation, welfare and other supports

If you are engaged to an Australian citizen/permanent resident and submit a Notice of Intention to Marry in an Australian registry, you may be sponsored by your Australian partner to travel to Australia on a temporary visa. Following your marriage, you may then apply for a combined Provisional/Permanent Partner visa inside Australia.
Sub Class: 309/100
If you are legally married or in a de facto relationship with an Australian citizen/permanent resident, you may be sponsored for a combined Provisional/Permanent Partner visa.
If you are in a “long-term” relationship with your Australian spouse, exemptions apply where the combined application and lead to the immediate grant of Australian permanent residence.
In circumstances where your relationship is not long-term, your eligibility for permanent residence inside Australia will arise two years after the date that you applied for your combined Partner visa application.
Partners of Australian residents are exempt from current Australian COVID-19 travel restrictions.

This permanent visa lets a single older person, now between 65-67 years, who relies on an eligible relative or that relative’s partner living in Australia for financial support, to move to Australia permanently.

- your partner, child, parent, brother, sister, stepchild, step-parent, stepbrother or stepsister
- your grandparent, grandchild, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew or step equivalent

Sub Class: 116
If you have a relative or their cohabiting family member in Australia with a long-term medical condition, who has no reasonable access to care options in Australia, this visa lets you move to Australia permanently to provide ongoing care.

Sub Class: 115
This visa provides permanent residence if both you and your partner are the last members of your family to become Australian.
You may be sponsored by an eligible Australian parent or step-parent, sibling or step-sibling, or an eligible partner of your relative, where:
- both you and your partner do not have any other near relative who usually lives outside Australia, or
- both you and your partner do not have a near relative who live in Australia on a temporary visa or unlawfully.
Permanent residents are exempt from current Australian COVID-19 travel restrictions.
Sub Class: 173
This is a 2-year Temporary visa that can lead to eligibly for the permanent resident Contributory Parent visa in Australia.
You must be sponsored for this visa by an eligible Australian child or another eligible relative or community organisation if your child is under 18.
A lower second visa application charge (VAC) applies for the temporary category.
Sub Class: 143
This is a directly permanent resident Contributory Parent visa.
Like the Temporary Contributory Parent visa, you must be sponsored by an eligible Australian child or another eligible relative or community organisation of your child is under 18.
A higher second visa application charge (VAC) applies for the permanent category.

Sub Class: 117
This visa allows a child who is single to come to Australia to live with an eligible relative if their parents are dead, are permanently unable to care for them or the parents’ whereabouts are unknown.

A child of an Australian citizen/permanent resident may be sponsored for a permanent Australian visa, if they are
- under 18 or
- between 18 and 25 years if they are a full-time student and financially dependent on the Australian parent, or

Sponsored Family Visitor allows you to stay in Australia continuously for up to 12 months, under the sponsorship of an eligible Australian relative, including your
- partner, parent or child
- brother or sister
- grandparent or grandchild
- aunt or uncle
- niece or nephew
- the step equivalent of the above
This visa also allows you up to 3 months of study or training in Australia. Your Australian sponsor may be asked to pay a security bond, which is always fully refundable so long as you comply with your visa conditions, including departure before expiry.

This visa allows you to renew your Australian permanent residence, either for a period of 5 years or for 3 months, depending on factors such as how long you have previously resided in Australia as a permanent resident.
You must either be
- an Australian permanent resident
- a former Australian permanent resident whose last permanent visa was not cancelled
- a former Australian citizen who lost or renounced Australian citizenship
Permanent residents are exempt from current Australian COVID-19 travel restrictions.
This provisional visa is for people with business skills. It lets you operate a new or existing business in Australia.
